PRCS KP and IFRC Extend Cash Assistance to Flood-Affected Families in Buner
The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Branch, in close collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), successfully carried out a cash assistance distribution operation to support flood-affected and vulnerable families in District Buner. The initiative was conducted under the supervision of PRCS KP Chairman, Mr. Farzand Ali Wazir, as part of the Society’s ongoing commitment to providing timely, dignified, and need-based humanitarian support across the province.
Restoring Dignity and Empowering Recovery
As part of the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) Program, a total of 200 men and women from flood-affected households each received PKR 25,000 in cash support. The initiative was designed to help families address their immediate essential needs—including food, shelter, health care, and education—according to their specific circumstances and priorities.
By providing direct financial assistance rather than in-kind relief, the PRCS and IFRC aim to promote dignity, self-reliance, and community resilience, ensuring that people have the freedom to make their own choices about how best to recover and rebuild their lives. This approach represents a key shift toward needs-based humanitarian programming that places people at the center of recovery efforts.
Commitment to Humanitarian Values
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Farzand Ali Wazir expressed deep appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed PRCS’s mission to serve humanity in times of crisis:“This initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society to reach out to vulnerable and disaster-affected communities across the country through its provincial branches and partner organizations. Our goal is to ensure timely, dignified, and sustainable assistance that truly meets the needs of those we serve,” he said.
He further extended his heartfelt gratitude to the IFRC and all humanitarian partners for their continued support and collaboration in assisting disaster-affected populations.“The strength of our humanitarian response lies in our partnerships and the dedication of our volunteers. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who have lost so much,” he added.
A Step Toward Recovery
The cash assistance program in Buner is part of a broader humanitarian response strategy implemented by PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with support from the IFRC. This strategy focuses not only on emergency relief but also on long-term recovery, community preparedness, and capacity building.
Through its field teams and volunteers, PRCS continues to assess needs in disaster-prone areas, ensuring that interventions are transparent, accountable, and inclusive, with particular attention to women, children, and marginalized groups.
The initiative also underscores the ongoing collaboration between PRCS and the IFRC in responding to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and climate-induced crises — challenges that continue to affect vulnerable communities across Pakistan.
