PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Organizes Provincial Summit on Climate Change, Resilience, and Disaster Risk Reduction

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Headquarters (PRCS KP) successfully organized a Provincial Summit on “Climate Change, Resilience, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)” at the Governor House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing together government officials, humanitarian partners, environmental experts, and community representatives to address the pressing challenges posed by climate change.

The summit was graced by His Excellency Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as Chief Guest. Distinguished attendees included Mr. Obaidullah Khan, Secretary General PRCS, Mr. Asif Aman Khan, Head of Office German Red Cross (GRC), Mr. Muhammad Ali Babakhel, Additional Inspector General of Police KP, as well as representatives from the Climate Change and Adaptation (CCA) Team of PRCS National Headquarters, GRC Pakistan Program, IFRC, and ICRC.

The event also brought together key governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA KP), Relief and Rehabilitation Department, Forest Department, National Humanitarian Network (NHN), Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF), Ayesha Foundation, WSSP, Watsan Cell, Education Department, Directorate General Commerce, Education and Management Science, International Rescue Committee (IRC), University of Peshawar, Bahauddin Zakaria University Multan, Pakistan Meteorological Department, Transport Department, Islamic Relief Pakistan, provincial staff of PRCS, IFRC delegates, media representatives, journalists, and young performers including actors from PTV.

The summit aimed to:

  • Discuss the impacts of increasing climate change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • Review the provincial environmental policy

  • Share research-based recommendations

  • Promote inter-agency cooperation

  • Encourage proactive disaster preparedness measures

  • Increase public awareness

  • Recognize institutions and individuals contributing to climate resilience

Over 200 participants actively engaged in discussions, highlighting the importance of collaboration between government, humanitarian actors, academia, and the community to build resilient and prepared societies capable of addressing climate-related challenges.

The summit concluded under the supervision of Chairman PRCS KP, Mr. Farzand Ali Wazir, with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi delivering the closing remarks. The event ended with a commitment to continue appreciating and supporting the services of all institutions and partners contributing to climate resilience and humanitarian work in the province.

This summit reaffirmed PRCS KP’s leadership in fostering climate action, disaster preparedness, and multi-stakeholder cooperation, ensuring that communities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are better equipped to face environmental and disaster-related challenges.

German Red Cross Delegation Briefed on Ongoing Humanitarian Activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – October 2025:
A delegation from the German Red Cross (GRC) visited the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Branch and received a comprehensive briefing on the Society’s ongoing humanitarian and relief activities across the province. The discussions centered on aid distribution efforts, community outreach programs, and field operations designed to support flood-affected and vulnerable communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The session was chaired by Chairman PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Farzand Ali Wazir, who provided an overview of the branch’s recent humanitarian interventions, disaster response operations, and the critical role played by PRCS volunteers in reaching communities in need.

Strengthening Humanitarian Cooperation

In his address, Chairman Farzand Ali Wazir expressed his appreciation for the continued partnership between the German Red Cross and PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing that this collaboration has greatly enhanced the branch’s ability to deliver timely and dignified assistance to disaster-affected families.

“The unwavering support of our partners, including the German Red Cross, has enabled PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen its humanitarian outreach and serve people in their moments of greatest need. Our volunteers remain the backbone of our mission—working day and night to support vulnerable communities with compassion and commitment,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Cyriakus Brautigam (Head of Office, German Red Cross Pakistan), Mr. Asif Khan, Mr. Muhammad Qaswar Abbas (Programme Delegate), and Mr. Sher Ahmad Shad (Programme Manager), along with PRCS officials and field staff. The participants reviewed progress in ongoing relief operations and discussed ways to further enhance coordination in humanitarian action across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The delegation lauded PRCS KP’s efforts in disaster response, healthcare services, and community resilience programs, recognizing the dedication of its volunteers and staff who continue to serve in challenging environments. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to humanitarian values—ensuring that all assistance is provided with humanity, integrity, transparency, and resilience.

Concluding the session, both organizations agreed to continue their close collaboration in strengthening disaster preparedness, community resilience, and humanitarian response capacity in the province. Peshawar — The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the support of the German Red Cross (GRC) and BMZ under the Climate Adaptation through Community Resilience Approach (CACRA) Project, organized a Wall Chalking Activity along Main Palosai Road, Peshawar, to raise awareness on climate change and environmental protection.

The initiative aimed to inspire public engagement and promote sustainable environmental practices through creative expression. Young PRCS volunteers participated enthusiastically, transforming city walls into colorful canvases filled with powerful messages advocating climate action, conservation, and community responsibility.

Through their artwork and messages, the volunteers highlighted the importance of collective action against climate change, emphasizing that small, community-based efforts can lead to meaningful global impact. The activity not only beautified the cityscape but also served as a powerful visual reminder of the urgent need for environmental stewardship.

Speaking about the initiative, PRCS KP officials noted that such awareness campaigns foster a sense of unity, creativity, and responsibility among youth, aligning with PRCS’s broader mission to promote resilience and sustainable living within communities.
