AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa Visits Pakistan to Promote Football Development
The President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, paid a two-day official visit to Pakistan to discuss the promotion and development of football in the country.
During his visit, a meeting was held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (President’s House) in Islamabad, where Acting President of Pakistan, Mr. Yousaf Raza Gilani, met with President of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), Mohsin Gilani, Chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Farzand Ali Wazir, AFC General Secretary, Datum, former national footballer Shahid Khan Shinwari, and former Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board, Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera.

The meeting focused on enhancing football infrastructure in Pakistan, establishing football academies, and encouraging youth participation in sports. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together — the AFC, Pakistan Football Federation, and the Government of Pakistan — to take practical steps for the growth of football across the country.
Addressing the meeting, Acting President Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized the importance of youth development, stating:
“Fifty-five percent of Pakistan’s population comprises young people, and it is our priority to provide them with more opportunities to participate in various sports, including football.”
AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa expressed his strong support for promoting football in Pakistan and assured full cooperation in providing young Pakistani players with exposure and opportunities at the international level.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Sheikh Salman was presented with a high-quality football crafted by Shahid & Brothers Company as a token of appreciation and goodwill.
