Abdur Rehman, a policeman who was injured in the Peshawar blast incident, credits his survival to his First Aid training from PRCS. He emphasized the importance of First Aid knowledge for police personnel in emergency situations. PRCS has been providing First Aid training for decades, focusing on educational institutions, communities, health professionals, and law enforcement agencies.
With the current security situation in Pakistan, particularly in the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Province, incidents such as bomb blasts, gun shots, and accidents can result in injuries and fatalities. First Aid is crucial in saving lives not only in disasters, but also in day-to-day incidents at the household, community, and society level. Research shows that improper handling of victims is a common cause of death.
To address this, PRCS KP has started training to Police Department this year, starting with the Malakand Region. Two training sessions have already been conducted in Swat and Lower Dir districts. However, PRCS aims to cover all districts and equip all police personnel with First Aid skills, but resources are needed to achieve this goal.
Learning basic First Aid is important for everyone because It can save lives in emergency situations. Improper handling of injuries can cause further harm and prolong recovery. First Aid knowledge can reduce suffering and promote early recovery. It can prepare individuals to handle common household injuries. It can increase confidence and ability to help others in need. Overall, basic First Aid skills are a valuable asset for individuals in various settings, from everyday life to emergency scenarios.
The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) plays a crucial role in raising awareness on First Aid in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) by providing First Aid training: PRCS has been imparting First Aid trainings for decades to educate various groups, including communities, health professionals, law enforcement agencies, and educational institutions.
Targeting high-risk areas: PRCS focuses on areas that are prone to emergencies and disasters, such as KPK, to equip individuals with the skills to handle such situations. Collaborating with other organizations: PRCS collaborates with other organizations to reach a wider audience and provide comprehensive First Aid training to the community. Awareness campaigns: PRCS conducts various awareness campaigns to educate individuals on the importance of First Aid and how it can make a difference in emergency situations.
By these efforts, PRCS is making a significant impact in raising awareness and providing crucial First Aid skills to individuals in KPK, potentially saving lives and reducing suffering in emergency situations.
